Today I wish I was either Gabriel Fredericks Cohen or Jolie Mae Signorile of Fredericks and Mae. Their work is fresh and reminds me of summer and fun times.
According to Sight Unseen, their work wasn’t always this uplifting.
They met senior year at Oberlin, says Signorile, “Gabe was really into the apocalypse and I was obsessed with nostalgia. When we got into it, we realized they were kind of about the same thing: a fear of the future.” The two collaborated on a senior show called “The End.”
After their move to New York, they found a pair of wings from Paris in a store in West Village called Hable Construction, which is no longer. The pair decided that they could do better, so they began making wings before eventually moving onto arrows and bows and onward.
Admire their lovely work and other links below.
