It’s finally Friday & I see the sun also finally peeking through my window blinds. We are heading to IKEA after work for a Swedish Midsummer! We stumbled upon it by accident last year & really enjoyed it. One of my fave summer fruits is watermelon. So today’s post is dedicated to this yummy treat that also happens to be quite stylish in sparkly form!

{In The News} + POOL Kickstarter

You may have heard of the + POOL they are working on in New York. It’d be the world’s first floating pool in a river! I had sent the original kickstarter to my cousin, who works as a researcher at Columbia University, a week before her team got contacted to help! How awesome is that. Now the + POOL team is delving deeper into it and is having a tile campaign over on Kickstarter. They’re going to build the pool “tile by tile.” If they sell every tile, they’ll have the funds to continue with their research, testing, and eventual construction! My cousin got me & her a tile already. You should get yours!

Daydream In Seagrass

With Father’s Day on Sunday, we’re thinking of inviting A’s parents over for a BBQ. That plus the warm summer air is making me think of all things outdoors and coastal. That led me to all things seagrass and its cool and casual vibe. So, here’s some inspiration for spending a day outdoors with our dads!

Lego master Tom Poulsom made these tropical birds out of Legos. I mean I played with Legos as a kid but this is the big leagues. The best I ever did was making a boxy house. You have to look through his Flickr for other amazing creations too!

{Color Palette} Moody Peonies

I’ve taken to buying flowers whenever we head to the farmer’s market. Their bright and unique blooms get me every time. Peonies have become a new favorite and we recently found a cute little vanity stool for my mirrored table in a similar shade of pink and gold like the bowtie above. I’m hoping to add some sort of moody dark blue to tie it all together into a beautifully moody place to put on nail polish and overly stare at my eye brows.

Daydream In Swings

We’re hitting summer soon and I can’t help but dream of all the things I want to do outside! We’re planning to hit the river extra this year since we were house hunting last summer, eat lots of alfresco meals on the deck, and tend to my veggie garden. One of the things that has been on my wish list for a long time is a swing! We don’t quite have mature enough trees that I’d trust to swing off of, but maybe with time. In the mean time, I’m looking for all the swing inspiration I can get and maybe get one indoors!

This is definitely my dream! My old friend and I used to joke in high school about starting a flower shop when we were old ladies so we could play with flowers and steal our own ribbon for other crafty endeavors all day. This image of a beautifully lit flower shop with fresh blooms that Louesa Roebuck forages from friends, neighbors, and other farms in a 60 mile radius just brings this dream back to life.

This week I’m really trying to think about only the basics I need with this Live Simply print ($20).

Canvas hanging furniture would be perfect for small spaces.

I’ve been dye-ing (pun totally intended!) to try my hand at batik since I read a book about it from the library. This version by Kelli Murray is so simple and pretty.

This cardboard alphabet by Weekday Carnival is so simple yet effective.

{Taste} Lake Oswego, OR: Casa Del Pollo

My guy bff and I headed to Costa Rica for 4th of July a few years back and I remember having such a good time. Drinks were buy one get one free at happy hour, the waters were warm, there were monkeys everywhere, living next to the Travel Channel hosts at the hotel, and we definitely had some funny food adventures (ordering fried rice served with mayo and getting corn pancakes at a local fair by the beach). This little red “hut” near our neighborhood takes me back. They serve simple Costa Rican food and are known for their freshly smoked chicken.We stopped by for a small bite and tried their smoked chicken and smoked pork tacos. They were piled high on a fresh cabbage slaw and there was smokiness in every bite. So good! I will definitely be stopping by here in the summers after a cold river swim to pretend I’m somewhere far away.

{Lust List} Monet’s Garden

I’ve always been obsessed with being obsessed. It’s not even on purpose. I go through phases of wanting to know every single thing about __(insert a topic)__. After the phase passes, I still revisit it form time to time, but it’s nothing like when it first starts. At the moment, I’m obsessed with flowers, flower arranging, and all things gardening. I can’t even say how many books I’ve checked out from the library in an attempt to become an expert! If you want some serious eye candy, get Flower Recipe Book by the ladies of Studio Choo.

I’ve been thumbing through nursery and seed catalogs like a drug daily and my colorful self can’t seem to get over flowers in every shade of every color. That’s why these dahilas and tulips inspired by Monet’s Garden as well as these adorably fragrant grape hyacinths are catching my eye for Fall planting. Is it bad that I’ve already order 2 of the 3 collections above?

Daydream In Balloons

I don’t know what took me so long to write this post, but I love balloons probably just as much as I love confetti and sprinkles! They’re colorful accents and include a natural dose of fun in just about anything! When I lived down on the Portland waterfront, one of my dreams was to fill the whole grassy hillside with balloons for people to take (like I did with the paper sailboats). Who knows? I still might do it someday!
