{Lust List} Monet’s Garden

Daydream-In-Color-Lust-List-Monets-Garden

I’ve always been obsessed with being obsessed. It’s not even on purpose. I go through phases of wanting to know every single thing about __(insert a topic)__. After the phase passes, I still revisit it form time to time, but it’s nothing like when it first starts. At the moment, I’m obsessed with flowers, flower arranging, and all things gardening. I can’t even say how many books I’ve checked out from the library in an attempt to become an expert! If you want some serious eye candy, get Flower Recipe Book by the ladies of Studio Choo.

I’ve been thumbing through nursery and seed catalogs like a drug daily and my colorful self can’t seem to get over flowers in every shade of every color. That’s why these dahilas and tulips inspired by Monet’s Garden as well as these adorably fragrant grape hyacinths are catching my eye for Fall planting. Is it bad that I’ve already order 2 of the 3 collections above?

Are you a fan of flowers and gardening? What are your favorite flowers?

I don’t know what took me so long to write this post, but I love balloons probably just as much as I love confetti and sprinkles! They’re colorful accents and include a natural dose of fun in just about anything! When I lived down on the Portland waterfront, one of my dreams was to fill the whole grassy hillside with balloons for people to take (like I did with the paper sailboats). Who knows? I still might do it someday!

What’s your favorite way to incorporate balloons into your life?

I’m big into Polaroids (I have rather large collection) and a while ago I was delving into the photo transfer process from polaroids (pack film) onto paper or different media. I have yet to experiment more, but Eni Tukeshi’s work reminds me a lot of this method. Double exposures and interesting juxtapositions. I love it!

Have you experiemented with double exposures before?

Even after buying a home in Oregon, I still am and will probably always be a California girl. I miss the sun and the palm trees and all my colorful sun dresses (which I try to wear here anyways with tights). I’m definitely longing for summer!

How are the Summers where you are?

The neon trend has been keeping its staying power and recently I’m loving the pairing of neon yellow with one of my all time faves – aqua. It’s a light hearted combo that has me daydreaming of sunny skies.

Do you like the combo of aqua and neon yellow?

Watching all the wildlife in the backyard is one of the most fun things of spring (I’ve definitely seen my share of bird/squirrel wars now). That’s why I’m loving Daniel Mackie’s work. Influenced by printmakers of the Ukiyo-e period and navy tattoos, each of the creatures’ habitat are represented inside each animal.

I’m romanticizing about wearing a wispy red dress like this with an equally stunning floppy hat. Actually pulling it off is another thing, but one can daydream.

What are you pining for most about Spring?

{Taste} Portland, OR: Boke Bowl

Daydream-In-Color-Taste-Boke-Bowl

My mom used to crave warm soups on winter days. We’d drive around to find a local pho or noodle soup place to cure the craving and the cold. Since then, nothing’s given me more comfort than finding a perfect soul warming bowl of noodle soup. A and I headed to Boke Bowl. We ordered siu mai and fried chicken in steamed buns (I’ve been meaning to try out their Boke Bird on Thursdays) for an app. Then we got a bowl of Pork Dashi and Miso Black Cod Ramen to share. Then, the Donutorama creme brulee doughnut taunted us in the case, so we saved that for dessert. I just love the feel of the place and the branding. So simple and direct. Our noodles were a bit undercooked, so that was disappointing though the flavor of the broth was super umami (do you like my made up adjectives?), but those fried chicken steamed buns. WOW. I think those stole our tastebuds’ hearts. We’ll definitely need to take an early Thursday off work one day to make the fried chicken night…
